New Library, Music Rooms and Administration Building
Project Overview
Kamaroi School engaged BJA to review what additional facilities and improvements were needed to complete the primary school offering on a restricted campus footprint.
Consultation with the Board, staff and faculty identified the need for a new library, dedicated music rooms, space for learning support plus more offices, staff rooms and storage.
The revised Masterplan identifies innovative solutions to provide new buildings without losing play space or requiring development on adjoining sites. Importantly, playgrounds will be upgraded and extended.
Accessibility will be improved by providing a lift in the admin building and connecting Classrooms with new ramps.
Development Application plans have been prepared based on the approved Masterplan. Works can be staged to suit the available budget whilst minimising disturbance to the day-to-day functioning of the School.
Design Approach
The design links with and visually integrates with the hall whilst scaling down to the smaller class 1 building. It works with passive and active environmental sustainability and avoids shading playgrounds. Provides new floor area by building over out-of-bound areas such as the waste water treatment tanks. Bushfire risk is mitigated by location and building fabric.

Library and Music Facilities
- New library located over the existing carparking area, level with the craft room.
- Dedicated music room, storage and practice rooms level with the existing hall, allowing for easy movement with heavy instruments.

New Administration Building
- New 3-level administration building replacing the existing. The mid-level entry accommodates admin staff whilst maintaining connection between teaching staff and parents.
- New upper level teacher’s retreat, study spaces and learning support rooms.
- Lower level storage, including equipment, stage props and costumes. Stage and store are interconnected by a lift.

Workshop and Storage
- New workshop and storage shed utilises space over the sewage tanks. As this is not a teaching space it can be built in this higher bush fire risk area, thereby freeing up other space for future school needs.
