Linuwel School was established on the current site of 133 Morpeth Road East Maitland in the early 1980s
It is known as the ‘School on the Lake’. The water body providing the dramatic setting was formed in an old brick quarry and now provides a rich educational resource.
Site Constraints
The lake has dominated the School’s incremental development since inception with a footprint of between 19 % of the site under normal conditions and 54 % in extreme floods.
The existing buildings were sited incrementally and now space for additional buildings is severely constrained by lack of flood free land.
The Master Plan Solution
Baxter & Jacobson Architects were commissioned to prepare a Master Plan to find a way to provide additional new facilities as well as solutions for upgrading and replacing obsolete facilities.
The solution included moving Early Childhood out of the High School precinct whilst creating a pivotal entry building with administration and staff rooms serving both primary and high school.
