| DUNGHUTTI COUNTRY | KEMPSEY NSW | 1980 –1991 |
The Seventh Day Adventist Church commissioned BJA in 1980 to design the Masterplan and first buildings for this rural site near Kempsey, on Dunghutti country. The Church had established a small school for aboriginal students, with boarding and dining functions in existing buildings. Master planning anticipated a full boarding school facility including boarding cottages, primary and secondary school classrooms and hall gymnasium.
The site is one of unusual beauty situated in the rich grazing land of the Nulla Nulla Valley running north from the Macleay River. The building forms respond to the particularly dramatic landscape to create a strong identity for the School, fostering a sense of connection and belonging.
