BARRINGTON
2007-2009
Located on a biodynamic olive and cattle farm, this isolated home is reliant on solar cells to generate power, rainwater collection, on site sewage treatment and solar panels backed up by a fuel stove for slab reticulated water heated panels.
The windows, upper and lower cantilevered verandah roof gesture towards magnificent views to the north and draw in winter warmth which is stored in the masonry floors.
The subtle twist of the main roof surface, reflected in the ceiling, was inspired by the client’s love of music whilst the CR Mackintosh inspired fire place anchors the room with its strong presence.
The U shaped plan forms a protected courtyard enclosed by the hill behind. The Flowform water cascade and pond helps temper the dry micro-climate.
