EARLY CHILDHOOD PLAYGROUND 2014
BJA were invited to undertake school master planning with the detailed landscape design of the playground as Stage 1. Since the schools’ foundation in 1961, little had been done by way of improvements. Detailed observation of how the children used the spaces and equipment, including the needs of different age groups, informed the design. A new entry structure provides a sense of arrival and transition and partially encloses the verandahs to create places, not just thoroughfares. The outcome demonstrates how integrated landscape design and architecture reimagine and revitalise the usage of limited facilities.
