This 1960s multi unit development has magnificent views but a confused and clashing pedestrian and vehicle entry with a prominent outdoor clothes drying area. The brief was to reorganise the parking layout to make way for a better entry, clothes drying and garbage area.
The solution was to relocate parking bays and move the clothes drying area to the lower level. A new covered entry with letterboxes with the garbage enclosure hidden behind was built. New paving leads to a secure entrance foyer and helps delineate the pedestrian and vehicle zones.
The problem is typical of many of the older unit developments that now need upgrading to meet new compliance standards, expectations of the owners and real estate values.
